Passionate about copyright reform legislation and its effects on artists around the world, Loreena recently made her second appearance before a Canadian parliamentary committee studying Bill C-32, an act to amend the Copyright Act.
Loreena submitted evidence as both a Canadian artist and the head of her own record company, Quinlan |
Road. The bill, also known as The Copyright Modernization Act, reached second reading in Canada’s House of Commons in 2010 before it was referred to the committee.
Intended to address the mounting problems surrounding the illegal downloading of artists’ work, among other copyright issues, the bill has taken some time in passing the committee stage. Loreena’s interest and concern is for the future of all creative industries and the people whose careers and livelihoods rely upon copyright laws.
